Before protein bars, before energy balls, before 'clean eating' became a trend — India had chikki. A simple, brilliant combination of nuts or seeds bound together with jaggery, chikki has been fuelling people across the subcontinent for generations.
And once you try it, you'll understand why it's survived for so long.
What is Chikki?
Chikki is a traditional Indian confection made by combining roasted nuts or seeds with hot jaggery syrup, pressing it flat, and allowing it to set into a hard, crunchy brittle. It's similar in concept to a nut brittle or a sesame snap — but made with jaggery instead of refined sugar.
That distinction matters enormously.
Why Jaggery Instead of Sugar?
Jaggery is unrefined cane sugar — made by boiling sugarcane juice until it solidifies, without removing the molasses. This means it retains minerals that refined white sugar completely lacks:
• Iron — important for energy and blood health
• Magnesium — supports sleep, stress, and muscle function
• Potassium — essential for heart and kidney health
• Natural antioxidants from the molasses content
Jaggery also has a lower glycaemic index than refined sugar — meaning it raises blood sugar more slowly, giving you sustained energy rather than a spike and crash.
This doesn't make chikki a 'free' food — it's still a sweet, energy-dense snack. But it's a far better sweet than anything made with refined sugar.
Our Chikki Range
Peanut Chikki
The original and most beloved. Roasted peanuts set in golden jaggery and in pure A2 Ghee — crunchy, nutty, naturally sweet. Peanuts are high in protein and healthy fats, making this the most nutritionally complete of our chikki range. One piece is genuinely satisfying.
Sesame Til Chikki
White sesame seeds are one of the richest plant sources of calcium — more per gram than milk. Bound in jaggery and in pure A2 Ghee, they create a delicate, nutty brittle that's particularly popular during Indian festivals. Light, elegant, and deeply satisfying.
Mixed Sesame Chikki (White & Black)
White and black sesame seeds together create a more complex flavour — the black sesame adds a slightly bitter, more intense nuttiness that balances beautifully with the sweetness of jaggery and in pure A2 Ghee. This is our most sophisticated chikki — the one people reach for when they want something a little special.
When to Eat Chikki
• Pre-workout — fast, natural energy from jaggery
• Afternoon energy slump — better than a biscuit or chocolate bar
• After a meal — a small piece satisfies the sweet craving
• Hiking or outdoor activities — energy-dense and doesn't melt
• Children's lunchbox — a traditional sweet with real nutritional value
How Does It Compare to a Protein Bar?
Most commercial protein bars are ultra-processed — filled with protein isolates, sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners, and flavourings. Chikki has three or four ingredients, all of which you can pronounce.
Yes, chikki has less protein than a dedicated protein bar. But it has zero artificial ingredients, a much better taste, and a connection to food tradition that no lab-made bar can replicate.
